Hello and welcome to our Year 1 page!

Hi everyone! Welcome to our class page.

The Year 1 Team: Miss Moore and Mrs Lince

Our learning theme this half term is School Days.

In the School Days project, your child will have the opportunity to take part in a traditional Victorian class and will learn about the differences between schooling in the Victorian era and schooling today. They will learn about objects found in a Victorian classroom and how they were used. They will research Samuel Wilderspin, an important figure in the development of schooling for young children in the Victorian era, whose ideals are reflected in schooling today. They will learn to describe the passage of time through study of past, present and future tense vocabulary.

Please ensure that your child’s uniform is clearly labelled – including ties, shoes and PE jackets!

Water Bottles

Children should bring a clearly labelled bottle to school each day and will be accessible to the children throughout the day. Please remember – water only please!

Physical Education

Our PE lessons are on a Monday and Thursday. The children have been asked to bring their PE kit into school on a Monday and will take them home on a Friday.

Outdoor PE Kit: navy blue jogging bottoms, white t shirt, navy blue zipped hooded top and trainers.

Reading and Phonics

At this age listening to stories and regular support with reading and phonics are particularly important. In Year 1, we have worked through Phase 3 and phase 4 of the Little Wandle Phonics scheme  and are applying our taught sounds and tricky words through games and writing opportunities, ready to progress through phase 5.

To support your child at home with their phonics and reading, Phonics Play is an excellent site which the children are familiar with. The site  helps the children with segmenting and blending of sounds in preparation for the statutory Phonics assessments.  In Year 1, we particularly love Buried Treasure!

The statutory Phonics Screening Check will take place W/C – 6th June 2022
