Hello and welcome to our Year 1 page!
Hi everyone! Welcome to our class page.
Whether at home or in school, all the children in year 1 are working really hard and would like to share some of their work with you.
This week we have been reading the Percy the Parkkeeper story, After the Storm. We sequenced the story and identified speech. We have continued using our adjectives to describe the setting.
We watched Nick Butterworth, the author and illustrator, drawing Percy the Parkkeeper and tried to draw him ourselves. What do you think?
We have been learning how to use adjectives to describe and all about weather in our Science work. We have been reading poems by Shirley Hughes and writing our own versions.
Due to the current climate, we are asking that the children re
frain from bringing in bags from home.
Please ensure that your child’s uniform is clearly labelled – including ties, shoes and PE jackets!
Children should bring a clearly labelled bottle to school each day and will be accessible to the children throughout the day. Please remember – water only please!
Our PE lessons are on a Thursday. Due to the current restrictions, the children have been asked to come into school dressed in their outdoor PE kit on a Thursday.
Outdoor PE Kit: navy blue jogging bottoms, white t shirt, navy blue zipped hooded top and trainers.
Reading and Phonics
At this age listening to stories and regular support with reading and phonics are particularly important. In Year 1, we have worked through Phase 3 of the Letters and Sounds Phonics and are applying our taught sounds and tricky words through games and writing opportunities, ready to begin Phase 4.
To support your child at home with their phonics and reading, Phonics Play is an excellent site which the children are familiar with. The site helps the children with segmenting and blending of sounds in preparation for the statutory Phonics assessments. In Year 1, we particularly love Buried Treasure!
