Y1 Medium Term Plan Summer Term 2021

This week we have been reading the Percy the Parkkeeper story, After the Storm. We sequenced the story and identified speech. We have continued using our adjectives to describe the setting.

We watched Nick Butterworth, the author and illustrator, drawing Percy the Parkkeeper and tried to draw him ourselves. What do you think?

We have been learning how to use adjectives to describe and all about weather in our Science work. We have been reading poems by Shirley Hughes and writing our own versions.

Reading and Phonics

At this age listening to stories and regular support with reading and phonics are particularly important. In Year 1, we have worked through Phase 3 of the Letters and Sounds Phonics and are applying our taught sounds and tricky words through games and writing opportunities, ready to begin Phase 4.

To support your child at home with their phonics and reading, Phonics Play is an excellent site which the children are familiar with. The site  helps the children with segmenting and blending of sounds in preparation for the statutory Phonics assessments.  In Year 1, we particularly love Buried Treasure!
