Mental Health and Well-Being

Mental Health and Wellbeing at St Bede’s…

Whilst it is important to provide children with an excellent academic education, at St Bede’s, we recognise that it is equally important that we equip children with the skills they need to use this education in the real world around them.

Our curriculum is designed to help pupils gain the skills knowledge and understanding they need to lead, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active and responsible citizens. It focuses on safety, well-being and enriching pupil’s educational experiences so that they are able to fully flourish.  We teach our children about the role they play as part of a local, national and international community and about the challenges and risks they may face outside the classroom and in turn prepare them so they know how best to deal with these.

We are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff.  We aim to provide an environment underpinned by our Catholic vision, where everyone can flourish.  We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times we may need additional emotional support. We take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s business and that we all have a role to play.

At St Bede’s we:

  • Provide a nurturing, safe and supportive environment with clear expectations for behaviour
  • Help our children to understand and manage their emotions and feelings
  • Ensure our children feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries
  • Support our children to form and maintain relationships
  • Foster self-esteem and self-worth, and ensure children know that they count
  • Encourage everyone to be confident and ‘dare to be different’
  • Help to develop emotional resilience and to manage setbacks
  • Support parents as partners in their child’s learning and development
