A prayer of Commitment

Heavenly Father, I admit that I have fallen short of your standards and I’m sorry about that. I believe that Jesus is your Son and that He died for me. I’ve considered the cost of following Jesus as Lord of my life and I want to go for it. So I come to Him as my Saviour and Lord. I ask for the help and strength of His Holy Spirit to fill me that I may follow Him all my days. Amen

October is the month of the Rosary and a month when we remember Mary, the mother of Jesus. During this month the children will be saying the Rosary in their classes and I do ask that you can try to find time to say the Rosary and to pray to Mary as a family.

The past few weeks have been full of smiles, learning and new friendships. It is so wonderful to see so many happy faces around school.

In the words of the CES, ‘Time spent at school should not only equip us for life in the world but instil in us a love for knowledge and a desire to seek truth and wisdom. Education is a lifelong pursuit and it is the job of parents and teachers alike to plant and nurture seeds which will continue to grow and flourish over a lifetime. True education should also recognise the different gifts and talents of each pupil. Catholic education has at its heart the mission to help students uncover the essence of who they are and what it means to be in fellowship with others, seeking vocation and celebrating differences.’

“When the Spirit of truth comes, He will lead you to the complete truth.” John 16: 12-15

This month is a busy one in the church calendar! Ascension Day and Pentecost Sunday take us to the end of Eastertide; then the church celebrates Trinity Sunday; and lastly the Feast of Corpus Christi, where we celebrate Jesus’ gift of His body and blood to us on the cross and through the Eucharist.

A common theme across these celebrations is that of peace:

  • Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He spent 40 days with His disciples on earth, giving them proof of Jesus’ resurrection and personal peace in their faith.
  • At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit brought peace and unity by giving the apostles the ability to speak different languages, enabling communication with all.
  • Trinity Sunday celebrates the loving, peaceful community of the Trinity. This week is also Refugee Week, which calls for the global spread of peace.
  • Finally, at Corpus Christi we celebrate Jesus’ sacrifice, as a result of which peace is restored between man and God!

According to the church calendar, the season of Eastertide lasts for 50 days – 10 days longer than Lent! During the May assemblies and collective worship in school, children have celebrated Jesus’ miraculous resurrection, the cornerstone of our faith. They have marvelled with Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb; they have been detectives seeking evidence for Jesus’ resurrection through the story of Doubting Thomas; they have learned that, like in nature, sometimes our hearts can be cold and wintry, but that because of Jesus’ death and resurrection we are offered new life and new direction.
