1st May 2020Admin

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you and your families are all still staying safe and well.  We can only imagine the challenges you are all facing each day with balancing home learning with working from home.  We would like to thank you for your continuing support with our Google Classroom teaching and for your weekly communications.  We look forward to the weekly telephone calls to our families and we will continue to make these calls in order that support can be given and also so that we know you are safe and well. There is much speculation through the media about when and how children will return to school and some parents have mentioned this in the weekly phone calls. Rest assured, once we know what is happening, we will communicate with you.

In school, the children of key workers have shown fantastic attitudes to learning and their behaviour and manners have been outstanding.  They have contributed to making artwork for our school railings and to celebrate the 100th birthday fundraiser by Captain (now promoted to Colonel) Tom Moore for the NHS.  Thank you to all those children who have submitted artwork through Google Classrooms.  The railings are looking bright and cheerful as many of you have commented.

Thank you once again for everything you are doing for your children and for us as a school family. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all in these unprecedented times.

Best wishes

Senior Leadership Team

Newsletter 24th April 2020

24th April 2020Admin

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we come to the end of another week of school closure we do hope you and your family are safe and well.  Yet again the teaching staff are blown away by the learning that is going on at home, we are really proud of you all.

School continues to be open every day for children whose parents are key workers and no other childcare can be found.  We thank you for following government guidance and using school as a last resort.

Teachers will continue to make their weekly phone calls to check you and your children are safe and well.

There has been lots to celebrate this week with the Queen’s Birthday, St George’s Day and Earth Day, it has been lovely to see how you have celebrated these on Google Classroom.

Take care everyone and keep your family safe.

With best wishes,

Mrs Brown, Mrs Haslam and Mrs Bennett

Newsletter Thursday 9th April 2020

9th April 2020Admin

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Please enjoy this newsletter showcasing pupils’ learning this very special Holy Week. Your children have been a credit to you and the school during what is a testing time for us all.  The positivity from children accessing Google Classrooms; work packs and the general communication with the staff has been a joy to observe.

We would like to particularly mention the children coming into school every day (the children of key workers).  What a set of mature, polite and happy children.  It is incredibly hard for them to continue schooling in the building without their peers, but they continue to do so.

Please keep yourselves safe and enjoy your Easter holiday.  Teachers will not be assigning any learning activities during this period.

With best wishes,

Mrs Brown, Mrs Haslam and Mrs Bennett

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We do hope you are all well and keeping safe.

We would like to say thank you to you all for your support this week. We have all enjoyed seeing your home learning on Google classroom and would like to say thank you to all the families for your support with this, it really has been amazing.

A huge thank you to you all for only sending your children to school if you have no other option, staying at home whenever you can and following government advice.

With best wishes,

Mrs Brown, Mrs Haslam and Mrs Bennett

27th March 2020Admin

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We do hope you are all well and keeping safe.

As parents, you are vital partners in the work we do. We hope we can continue to work together this academic year and during this unprecedented time to build the already established, firm relationship between home and school.  We truly believe ‘Together we can make a Difference’.

The pupils have been remarkable in their approach to learning at home and we are hearing, from staff, of the fantastic work completed.

We will continue to update the website to keep you all involved and staff will make contact through texts and telephone calls.

Thank you for your continued support; we wish you a safe weekend.

With best wishes,

Mrs Brown, Mrs Haslam and Mrs Bennett

Newsletter Friday 14th February 2020

14th February 2020Admin

Much research has been carried out around the long-term benefits of reading and reading for pleasure in particular.  These benefits can include mental stimulation; improved well-being and reduced anxiety; greater knowledge; improved memory retention; an increased bank of vocabulary and better articulation; greater focus and concentration as well as improved thinking skills.  St Bede’s has been trialling a programme called Reading Plus with our Year 6 children with some amazing results in terms of increased fluency and comprehension.  We will be extending this programme to all of Key Stage 2 in the Summer Term.  It can be accessed at home and includes a broad collection of both fiction and non-fiction engaging short texts.  It gives staff an insight to the reading genres that are popular with our children.  Because texts are short, children are more likely to try out genres that they would not normally choose, thereby broadening their reading experiences.

Nicholas Postgate Trust have elected for schools to be part of the Reciprocal Reading Programme.  This is a project funded by Opportunity North East and delivered through a partnership between Legacy Learning Trust, Queen’s University Belfast and FFT Literacy.  This is is a Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 Transition project and therefore it will be our Year 6 children who will be taking part.  It is an interactive teaching technique that is suitable for all readers.
